A mission-driven human services organization with approximately $25M+ in annual operating budget is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead its accounting function. This is a hands-on role supporting the CFO, owning close, reporting, audit, and day-to-day accounting operations in a grant-funded environment with multiple programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Own the preparation of core financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and deliver reporting packages to leadership, the board, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper fund accounting treatment and maintain a chart of accounts aligned to programs and funding sources.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the annual audit, maintain audit readiness year-round, and oversee compliance with GAAP, nonprofit standards, and Form 990 requirements.
  • Manage cash flow, oversee AP, AR, and payroll, monitor restricted vs. unrestricted funds, and drive process improvements and internal controls.


Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting, along with experience in audit, compliance, and regulatory reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead accounting operations and manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and strong analytical and communication skills are required.
  • Nonprofit or grant-funded experience is strongly preferred.
  • CPA and/or Master’s in Accounting are highly valued.


Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000
