Position Overview
Maxim is seeking an experienced Asset Manager to join our growing team. In this role, you will report directly to the Operating Partners and take primary ownership of a broad portfolio of commercial real estate loans across Maxim’s discretionary funds and separately managed accounts. With a portfolio of more than 130 individual loans spanning diverse property types, borrower profiles, and capital structures, this role demands a high-caliber professional who combines deep credit expertise with a systems-oriented mindset and a bias for proactive risk management.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with 7 to 10 years of hands-on commercial real estate debt asset management experience who thrives in a lean, fast-paced environment. This person brings strong loan document expertise, sound judgment on risk and credit, and a demonstrated ability to leverage technology and workflow automation to operate efficiently at scale. This is an excellent opportunity to play a senior role at a high-performing private credit firm with significant assets under management and continued growth momentum.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management
- Manage a portfolio of more than 130 individual senior secured commercial real estate loans across Maxim’s funds and SMAs, serving as the primary point of contact for ongoing asset monitoring and borrower engagement.
- Conduct ongoing covenant monitoring, borrower compliance reviews, and collateral performance tracking; proactively identify risks that may lead to modifications, extensions, restructurings, or workouts.
- Lead quarterly and annual loan review processes, including risk rating updates, credit assessments, and preparation of decision-useful reporting for senior leadership and investment committees.
- Maintain deep fluency in loan documents—covenants, cash management provisions, control rights, reporting requirements, remedies, and amendment mechanics. Ensure accurate interpretation, tracking, and enforcement across the portfolio.
- Lead mark-to-market processes for collateral and debt positions across the portfolio, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to valuation standards.
Borrower & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for borrowers and sponsors on ongoing asset matters, including reporting obligations, covenant waivers, modifications, payoffs, and retention opportunities.
- Lead negotiations with borrowers, sponsors, and internal and external stakeholders; present clear positions, escalation points, and trade-offs.
- Collaborate with Investor Relations to respond to investor inquiries related to portfolio performance and asset-level diligence in a timely, accurate, and well-supported manner.
- Provide asset management reporting and updates to the Risk Committee, including recommended actions and key risk flags.
Technology, Systems & Process Improvement
- Leverage and help optimize Maxim’s asset management systems and data infrastructure—including our loan servicing platform and Precision Loan Management (PLM) system to ensure accurate, real-time tracking of portfolio metrics, covenant compliance, and borrower reporting obligations.
- Partner closely with Maxim’s loan servicer and serve as a power user of PLM, working to extract, interpret, and act on data across the portfolio; develop reporting tools, dashboards, and analytical frameworks that translate data into actionable insights.
- Identify opportunities to leverage PLM data to build scalable business tools and workflow automation—including loan monitoring alerts, borrower compliance trackers, maturity dashboards, and investor reporting templates that drive operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive workflows and partner with the broader team to implement scalable process improvements.
- Support the onboarding and integration of new technology solutions to enhance monitoring, analytics, and overall asset management capabilities across the platform.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Originations, Fund Accounting, Investor Relations, and Legal on ad hoc projects, fund-level reporting, and firm-wide initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or professional designation a plus.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in commercial real estate debt asset management, lending, or related fields, with demonstrated experience managing a large loan portfolio.

- Proficiency in data tools and a demonstrated interest in leveraging technology to drive efficiency and scale within an asset management function.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; detail-oriented and control-minded with an ability to operate effectively in a lean, entrepreneurial environment.
