Air Import Compliance Specialist
Location: Schaumburg, IL (Onsite)
Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 + Full Benefits
Schedule: M-F 8am-4:30pm
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Air Import Compliance Specialist to join a global logistics and supply chain organization with a strong international presence. This role is ideal for someone who brings a solid background in U.S. Customs compliance and hands-on experience managing international air import shipments.
You will play a key role in ensuring all import activities meet regulatory requirements while supporting the efficient movement of time-sensitive freight across global markets.
What You’ll Do
Customs Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure all import transactions comply with U.S. Customs (CBP) regulations, HTS classification, and applicable trade laws
- Validate HTS codes, country of origin, valuation, and duty rates
- Review and manage import documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, and air waybills
- Partner with customs brokers to ensure timely clearance and resolve holds, exams, or discrepancies
- Maintain import records in accordance with CBP requirements
- Support audits, post-entry corrections, and compliance initiatives
- Stay current on regulatory updates and communicate impacts internally
Air Import Operations
- Coordinate international air import shipments from origin through final delivery
- Communicate with overseas suppliers, airlines, and freight forwarders
- Track shipments, troubleshoot delays, and ensure documentation accuracy
- Coordinate domestic transportation upon U.S. arrival
- Provide shipment visibility and updates to internal stakeholders
Specialized & Regulated Shipments
- Support imports within regulated industries, including pharmaceutical or temperature-sensitive freight
- Ensure proper handling, documentation, and compliance standards are met
Process Improvement & Support
- Maintain product and compliance data (HTS classifications, import records)
- Assist with vendor onboarding and compliance validation
- Serve as an internal resource for import compliance questions
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, visibility, and efficiency
What You Bring
- 2+ years of experience in air imports, customs compliance, or international logistics
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, and import processes
- Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and international suppliers
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience in pharmaceutical or regulated environments is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
- CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) certification is a plus
