About the Position:

Under direct or general supervision,performstechnical and detailed accounting work required to produce and maintain centralized accounting operations for a department or division; maintains County financial accounts and records and assists in the preparation of financial reports and analyses; provides responsible technical and clerical accounting support to professional staff.

  • Performs complex clerical and accounting duties involving the preparation, maintenance, and/or processing of accounting transactions or documents.
  • Maintains, audits, verifies, and reconciles a variety of accounts, reports, journals, budgets, or related fiscal or statistical data;summarizes and posts data as required.
  • Processes payroll, claims, invoices, purchase orders, payments, contracts and bids, including maintaining complete and accurate records, auditing progress payments, and preparing the appropriate correspondence.
Accounting Technician III:
In addition to the duties above:
  • Audits and verifies information for compliance with rules and regulations, including source data as well as manual and computer-produced reports.
  • Prepares a variety of tax forms, calculations, and distributions, monitor health insurance data, grant applications, and special reports.

Accounting Technician I | Accounting Technician II | Accounting Technician III

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

Accounting Technician I: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible clerical accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably with a government agency

Accounting Technician II: Equivalent to three (3) years of experience as an Accounting Technician I at the County of Tehama


Accounting Technician III: Equivalent to four (4) years of increasingly responsible accounting experience, preferably with a government agency.


*Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.


License and Special Requirements:

  • A valid California Class C driver’s license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
The department is currently recruiting for one (1) anticipated vacancy.

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Accounting Technician I/II or Accounting Technician III, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.


Tentative Interview Dates:1st - Wednesday, June 3, 20262nd -Thursday, June 4, 2026
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
