Accounting Department

Help students master skills that are in demand across accounting fields and gain foundational knowledge of broader business concepts. Our students learn to analyze financial information and apply practical accounting practices across business structures. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will advise students, assist with assessment of current instructional methods, develop programs and curricula, participate in Shoreline governance, department, division and campus-related professional activities, and industry-focused advisory meetings. Additionally, this position is expected to support andadvise, along with other unit faculty, for the Shoreline College chapter of DECA. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching accounting courses including Financial and Managerial Accounting. NOTE: An on-campus presence is required for this position.

Faculty at Shoreline will have an array of students from differing programs in their classroom, including professional technical and university transfers. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Instruction
    1. Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved curriculum and course outlines.
    2. Develop and maintain engaging, inclusive, and accessible learning environments.
    3. Assess student learning outcomes and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Curriculum & Academic Development
    1. Participate in curriculum review, development, and program assessment.
    2. Integrate current industry trends, technology, and pedagogical best practices.
  • Student Support
    1. Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress and career pathways.
    2. Maintain regular office hours and respond promptly to student inquiries.
  • Professional Engagement
    1. Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and college-wide initiatives.
    2. Complete 75 service hours for the College per quarter.
    3. Engage in professional development to maintain subject matter expertise.
  • Community & Institutional Service
    1. Support outreach, recruitment, and community engagement activities.
    2. Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative campus culture.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Accounting OR related business degree with a minimum of 15 graduate credits in accounting
  • Two (2) years of full-time work OR teaching experience in accounting, business management, finance, or a closely related field


Knowledge of

  • Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems (ex. Canvas) and other appropriate instructional technology
  • Proficiency in relevant technology tools and software used in accounting education and practice


Skill in

  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of accounting
  • Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
  • Contributing to equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and competence
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
  • Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Physical Work Environment
The College conducts both in-person and online operations, with the option for some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. If authorized by the College for online instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.

Term Of Employment/Salary

This is a full-time, tenure track position, with a 172-day annual contract beginning September 17, 2026. Salary placement is determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with educational preparation. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
