Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Under general supervision, develop curriculum for and teach a wide range of accounting courses in face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online learning environments and perform other related work as assigned.
  2. Related work activities include, but are not limited to, advising and counseling students; responding to student inquiries in a timely manner; assisting in program, division and campus-related student activities;
  3. Collaborate with business and industry and Leeward CC faculty to develop innovative business programs that meet community workforce development needs;
  4. Actively participate in faculty and administrative committees;
  5. Actively participate in program, division, college, and community/public service;
  6. Develop and maintain professional self-improvement plans;
  7. Collect data and prepare reports;
  8. Prepare, create, and revise Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to meet CLOs;
  9. Conduct course assessment and other evaluations of instruction based CLOs, Course Evaluation Surveys, and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to improve outcomes; on student learning outcomes and improve student learning based on results of assessment data.
  10. Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments;
  11. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Accounting (MAcc); or
  2. MBA including 18 credits in Accounting (undergraduate and/or graduate - 300 level or higher); or
  3. Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 3 years of related work experience in accounting; or
  4. Bachelor's degree in related fields such as Business Administration (in areas other than Accounting) including 18 credits Accounting (undergraduate and/or graduate - 300 level or higher) and 5 years of related work experience in accounting; or
  5. Bachelor's degree in any field and CPA/CMA or equivalent professional accounting certification (in the USA).

Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Current (within the past 3 years) work experience in individual and business tax preparation using various tax preparation software such as, but not limited to, ProConnect Tax Online.
  2. Current (within the past 3 years) work experience in accounting for small businesses.
  3. Current (within the past 3 years) work experience using QuickBooks, MS Excel, and payroll.
  4. Tax-related credential such as, but not limited to, Enrolled Agent.
  5. Teaching experience at the community college level in a full range of vocational as well as transfer-level accounting including (but not limited to): Financial and Managerial Accounting, Tax, Computer Accounting Systems (such as QuickBooks), payroll, MS Excel.
  6. Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including Native Hawaiian, adult students, students with disability, students with a wide range of abilities, and students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
  7. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work with students on an individual/informal basis.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals.
