Job Summary

The Catholic School ELA Teacher is responsible for instructing students in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and critical thinking. The teacher integrates academic excellence with the Catholic faith, helping students grow intellectually, spiritually, and morally in alignment with the mission of Catholic education.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging ELA instruction aligned with state standards and diocesan guidelines
  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing (narrative, argumentative, informational), grammar, and vocabulary
  • Select and teach age-appropriate literature, including novels, poetry, short stories, and nonfiction texts
  • Develop students’ critical thinking, discussion, and communication skills
  • Assess student progress through assignments, tests, writing portfolios, and informal assessments
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Create a structured, respectful, and faith-centered classroom environment
  • Integrate Catholic values, teachings, and perspectives into instruction when appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate with parents/guardians
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and school initiatives
  • Participate in school Masses, prayer services, and other faith-based activities
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Literature, or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification (state and/or diocesan requirements)
  • Strong knowledge of ELA content and instructional strategies
  • Experience working with middle school or high school students (as applicable)
