The City of Folsom's Parks and Recreation Department is currently recruiting for multiplepart-time, temporaryRecreation Leader II: Youth Sports Officials to support the Sports Division.

Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, youth sports officials work to facilitate game play, enforce rules and cultivate a positive play environment for program participants. Youth sports officials implement league rules during gameplay and uphold the player code of conduct as written in the official program handbook.

Schedule
  • Schedule: Positions are seasonal and will begin in August - November 2026 and February - April 2027.
  • Hours are Fridays from 5:00pm - 9:00pm.
  • Duration: positions are ongoing as long as needed and supported by the budget.

Pay & Benefits
  • Non-exempt, hourly rate. Depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Part-time positions are hourly and not eligible for benefits, and are limited to working 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). No full-time regular appointment will be made from this class.

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all the duties listed.

  • Officiate games: interpret and enforce rules in the youth flag football and other leagues.
  • Maintain knowledge of league rules, regulations, and changes to these standards.
  • Preserve order and implement safety procedures for participants and spectators during the game.
  • Ensure that the game fields and equipment are in a proper and safe condition for play.
  • Establish regular communication with the Recreation Coordinator about the league.

NOTE:The level and scope of the following knowledge and abilities are related to duties listed under the "Examples of Essential Duties" section of this specification.

Knowledge of:
  • Basic understanding of the game of flag football and other youth sports.

Ability to:
  • Communicate professionally both orally and in writing.
  • Organize, prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and tasks.
  • Follow oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, care, and maturity toward the program and community.
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. or work permit, some college preferred.

Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire date.

Previous experience scorekeeping and knowledge of sports is desirable

License, Certificate, Registration Requirements:
Some positions may require possession of, or the ability to obtain and retain, a California Class C driver license by the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, and crouching. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Perform repetitive hand, arm and body movements continuously. Regular public and coworker contact, occasional working alone.

Persons in this class are subject to a background check, which requires DOJ fingerprint clearance.
