Youth Program Teaching Artist – Part-Time Faculty (Ongoing Recruitment) Location: Washington, DC (Dance Loft on 14) Department: Youth Education Programs at The School at Dance Loft Classification: Part-time, Seasonal / Ongoing Roster-Based Placement Compensation Range: $40/hour (commensurate with experience) Position Description Dance Loft on 14 is seeking experienced and passionate Teaching Artists to join our Youth Program Faculty. We are building an ongoing roster of instructors to teach current classes, upcoming sessions, and future offerings. Ideal candidates have experience working with young dancers ages 3–12 and bring a nurturing, technically sound, and inclusive teaching approach. We are especially interested in teachers with backgrounds in ballet, creative movement, pre-ballet, and introductory modern/jazz-based creative dance for young movers. Key Teaching Responsibilities ● Teach weekly youth classes in Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, and/or Ballet Foundations ● Foster a welcoming and imaginative class environment that prioritizes both joy and technique ● Support student development through thoughtful lesson planning aligned with Dance Loft on 14 standards ● Communicate clearly with program staff regarding classroom needs, attendance, and parent-facing notes if requested ● Participate in informal showings or end-of-session studio sharings ● Uphold Dance Loft on 14’s commitment to access, inclusion, and community-centered arts programming ● Be open to growth opportunities including workshops, intensives, and future performance projects tailored for young dancers Experience, Skills & Qualifications While we understand that no one candidate may meet 100% of the qualifications, priority consideration will be given to applicants with: ● Teaching or professional dance experience in a studio, conservatory, or community arts program ● Prior experience teaching young children ages 3–12 in group class settings ● Strong foundation in classical ballet and/or creative movement pedagogy ● Ability to create age-appropriate choreography or class combinations ● A warm, professional teaching presence and excellent classroom management skills ● Collaborative spirit and willingness to be part of a growing artistic education community ● Familiarity with inclusive teaching practices and ability to adapt for mixed-experience groups Bonus but not required: ● Certification or training in a ballet syllabus or early childhood movement education philosophy ● Interest in helping shape curriculum or seasonal sharings/showcase formats with choreography experience Compensation & Benefits ● $40/hour teaching rate , commensurate with experience, & $30/half hour (Stacked) ● Opportunities for additional teaching, substitute teaching, and workshop sessions ● Access to free adult drop-in classes (as space allows) ● Invitation to community events, sharings, and artistic programming at Dance Loft on 14 ● Consideration for new venue teaching slots as programs expand ● Priority for Event Attendant shifts if interested in additional work opportunities To Apply Please email the following to hiring@danceloft14.org : ● Resume or CV ● Optional brief note sharing your teaching approach and general availability ● Links to any teaching, choreography, or class footage (if available) Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
