Performs professional duties to ensure the effective performance of lifeguard functions. Observes and supervises the activities of guests in the pool and surrounding areas to protect life, prevent accidents, and enforce pool regulations. Performs water rescues in emergency situations and provides emergency medical treatment as needed. Ensures the general safety, cleanliness, and appearance of assigned aquatics amenities, including pool areas, restrooms, showers, and concession areas, when able to do so without distraction from lifeguarding responsibilities. Performs a variety of tasks related to the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Performs all lifeguard responsibilities, including monitoring pool activities, administering first aid, and conducting water rescues as necessary.
  • Ensures swimmers are properly supervised in the pool and on-deck areas.
  • Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensures all lifeguards maintain current training and certifications.
  • Assists in scheduling, coordinating, and conducting in-service training; ensures lifeguards are competent in first aid, CPR, and water rescue techniques.
  • Assists with scheduling lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage of pool areas during operating hours.
  • Ensures lifeguards perform duties in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
  • Keeps management informed of pool maintenance needs, including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
  • Monitors inventory and communicates supply and equipment needs to management.
  • Responds to patron concerns and provides appropriate resolutions or feedback.
  • Assists in ensuring aquatic programs run effectively, including swimming lessons and pool parties.
  • Assists with front desk and concession operations while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Accept and process payments as needed.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to uniform requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must be at least 16 years of age and have at least one (1) year of previous lifeguard experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Thorough knowledge of water safety practices and usage of water safety equipment. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, department heads, businesses, and the general public. Understanding of basic cash processing procedures and functional computer skills.Athletic/Aquatic Supervisor. Requires American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard (LG) certification; Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications are preferred.

Must be able to work a varying schedule, including weekends and holidays, as designated by the Athletic/Aquatic Supervisor.

Environmental factors consist of working outside in the heat, sun, high humidity and wind. Exposure to HTH, chlorine, muriatic acid, pool chemicals, and slippery surfaces. Basic noise factors consist of crowds and whistles. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
