Description

SAIC has an opening for a Welding Manufacturing Engineer Tech within our Army Navy Business Group to support System Integration activities.  This position is a member of our Mechanical Analysis, Design, and Engineering (MADE) team and will be a significant contributor to our in-house Fabrication Shop in Huntsville, AL. The candidate must have experience in supporting a multi-disciplinary fabrication shop with proficiency in sheet metal fabrication, sheet metal and general welding, fixture concepts, press brake operation and more.  The candidate must be able to interpret 2D drawings, 3D models, and have a basic understanding of Quality Inspection techniques.

 The Welding Manufacturing Engineer Tech will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Operate welding machines, press brake and waterjet to produce quality products.
  • Read and interpret blueprints (including GD&T and basic dimensions) and other technical documents.
  • Design and fabricate or procure appropriate welding fixtures and material retention.
  • Use technical measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, scales, etc.
  • Convert print dimensions from Metric to Inch or Inch to Metric.
  • Ensure work area, machine, tooling, and parts are cleaned regularly and free from excess oil deposits; maintains a clean work area.
  • Adhere to Safety Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Participate in project planning activities, estimation, and schedule development.
  • Support and/or lead preventative maintenance needs for fabrication equipment.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior-level engineers on the team.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop component and/or assembly designs.
  • Support DFM (design for manufacturability) activities across multiple programs.

 

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years’ experience; additional four (4) years’ experience can be considered in lieu of degree

 

Required Clearance: 

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret security clearance; US Citizenship required

 

Required Skills: 

  • Proficient in Mig and Tig welding of steel and/or aluminum
  • Proficient using MS Windows, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio), etc.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Prefer experience programming waterjet and setups on manual press brake
  • Prefer experience developing military weapon components and/or systems
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Must have proven can-do attitude and willingness to help the team succeed

 

Desired Skills or Required Certifications:

  • Experience with manual mills and lathes, CNC machining and lathes, water jet, and assembly
