Overview
- We are seeking an experienced Electron Beam Welding (EBW) Process Engineer to support advanced product development, qualification, and manufacturing of high-performance hardware.
- This role will act as a technical authority in EBW, working across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to resolve complex welding and metallurgical challenges that directly impact product performance and reliability.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)
12+ years of experience (or PhD with 5+ years)
Hands-on experience with Electron Beam Welding (EBW) processes
Strong knowledge of weld metallurgy (aluminum, ferrous, nickel alloys)
Experience developing and qualifying welding procedures
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Electron Beam Welding (EBW) processes
- Lead weld process development, optimization, and qualification (WPS, parameters, process windows)
- Support product development from prototype through production and field support
- Conduct failure analysis, metallurgical evaluations, and experimental testing
- Analyze weld impacts including microstructure, HAZ, distortion, and residual stress
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, suppliers)
- Partner with machining, coating, and inspection teams to ensure product quality
- Support troubleshooting, repair, and debugging in lab and production environments
- Qualify and collaborate with external suppliers for EBW capabilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in semiconductor, aerospace, automotive, or defense industries
- Background in manufacturing engineering (DFM/DFA, production transition)
- Familiarity with engineering drawings and 3D models
- Experience with industry standards (ASME, AMS, AS, SEMI, MIL)
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
- Experience auditing or qualifying supplier EBW processes
