Job SummaryThe Welder/Fitter is responsible for the fabrication and assembly of structural steel components. You will be expected to read blueprints,layoutmaterials, and perform high-quality welds to ensure structural integrity and compliance with project specifications. This role requires a "dual-threat" skill set—the ability to fit up complex assemblies and the technical proficiency to weld them out.
Key ResponsibilitiesBlueprint Interpretation:Read and interpret technical drawings, shop blueprints, and weld symbols to determine layout and sequences.
Fitting & Layout:Lay out, position, align, and fit components together using jigs, clamps, and levels.
Welding:PerformMIG (GMAW),Flux-Core (FCAW), and occasionallyStick (SMAW)welding on carbon steel and other alloys.
Material Preparation:Use torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and saws to cut and prep metal for welding.
Quality Control:Inspect completed welds for cracks, slag, or irregularities; ensure all measurements meet the specified tolerances (often within 1/16").
Safety:Maintain a clean workspace and strictly adhere to OSHA standards and company-specific safety protocols.
Experience:3+ years of experience in structural steel fitting and welding.
Technical Skills:* Proficiency in Flux-Core (FCAW) and MIG welding.
Ability to pass a vertical (3G) and overhead (4G) weld test.
Expertise in using shop tools (overhead cranes, forklifts, ironworkers).
Physical Demands:Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for 10-hour shifts, and work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment (Texas heat).
Tools:Must have your own basic welding hood and hand tools (tape measure, square, levels, etc.).
