Position Summary: brief summary of role and key deliverables / metrics
Performs a variety of standardized as well as customized welding duties on standard and nonstandard parts. Performs less complex custom weldment fit up using the gas metal arc welding/flux cored arc welding (GMAW/FCAW) welding processes. Must be proficient in numerous Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) including small pipe qualification and various welding positions.
The pay range for this role will be $35.68-$38.30. The 2nd shift does have a pay differential of additional 10%.The schedule is as follows:
1st shift 6:00am - 2:30pm M-F, Sat 5am-10am
2nd shift 3:00pm-11:30pm M-F, Sat 10am-3pm
There is mandatory overtime for Saturdays. The schedule is 3 weeks on, two weeks off with the above hours for 1st and 2nd shifts noted.
Measures of success:
- Full understanding of relevant Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and the ability to follow all parameters within.
- Timely completion of all welding operations within the operational time limits and according to Taco’s quality protocols.
- Capability of welding fillet and groove welds without backing in both the horizontal and flat positions.
Ability to resolve minor welding and fit-up issues with minimal guidance.
Responsibilities: identify functions or the role and expected outcomes
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Works mostly independently using drawings, specifications, WPS and verbal instructions.
- Uses various types of welding equipment and a variety of common hand and power tools. - Performs fit up and fully welds a variety of tank and heat exchanger subassemblies including standard and custom fabrications, with minimal guidance, by reading and interpreting standard and custom part drawings.
- Performs final welding operations on complex weldments that have been fit up by others. - Performs extensive final welding operations for long periods of time in awkward positions or at elevated heights.
- Uses FCAW/GMAW welding process, with or without backing, in the flat, horizontal and vertical positions, on both steel and stainless-steel materials.
- Welds full penetration welds on small diameter pipe using the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process.
- Uses a scissor lift when needed to access welding work at heights.
- With assistance and supervision, may perform more complicated welding and fit up, using various equipment.
- Reads appropriate Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and is capable of interpreting welding variables and assures that all parameters within the WPS are adhered to.
- Monitors quality of work makes corrective adjustments and reports equipment malfunctions, defective materials or other unusual conditions to Supervisor.
- Maintains necessary records, completes transactions within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and accesses company intranet as needed for work instructions.
- Maintains work area in neat, clean, and orderly condition and observes all safety regulations and practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications: list education, years of experience in what area, certifications and licenses, areas of knowledge, behavioral expectations
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section IX welding tests with the following variables: o FCAW/GMAW and SAW processes o Steel-steel, steel-stainless, stainless-stainless material o Flat, horizontal and vertical positions o With or without backing o Small pipe diameter in rotated horizontal position
- 3+ years of welding experience using drawings, specifications, charts and welding equipment
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively apply to assigned work - Ability to navigate multiple windows in company ERP system to access production and resource data
- Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity and including standing and lifting for extended periods of time sometimes at height of up to 10 feet
- Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict time deadlines and production volumes
- Requires judgment to comply with instructions, solve problems, and the ability to solve minor technical issues without guidance
- Minimal/No travel required
Preferred:
- Graduate of a welding and fabrication vocational or technical training program
- 12 months experience in a pipe, pressure vessel or structural welding shop
Work Environment:
describe the overall work environment, risk exposure, and any safety equipment or personal protective gear This position works primarily in a production floor environment where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas. This position reports into the site every day.
