Water Treatment Operator

The Sterling Choice

Wastewater Technician

📍 Houston, TX (On-site)

💰 $30/hr + Overtime | Full-Time

Most wastewater roles are maintenance.

This one is ownership.

A growing manufacturing site in Houston has reached the point where wastewater can’t sit in the background anymore. Production is ramping up, compliance is tightening, and they’re bringing this function in-house for the first time.

They need someone who doesn’t just run the process but takes pride in it.

Why This Stands Out?

  • Newly created role – not backfilling someone else’s problems
  • High visibility – wastewater is now business-critical on-site
  • Real ownership – you’ll become the go-to person in this area
  • Backed environment – stable company, but small-team feel
  • Overtime + benefits – strong overall package
  • This is the kind of role where, if you do it well, people notice.

The Role

You’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day wastewater operation—monitoring, testing, treating, and keeping everything compliant. It’s hands-on, technical, and important.

You’ll be:

  • Running and monitoring wastewater treatment processes
  • Carrying out microbiological and chemical testing
  • Supporting maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Ensuring environmental and safety standards are met
  • You won’t be micromanaged but you will be relied on.

What They’re Looking For

  • 1–3 years in manufacturing, plant ops, or wastewater
  • Exposure to wastewater processes (or strong technical aptitude)
  • Basic microbiology/chemistry understanding
  • Someone reliable—this is a role that depends on consistency
  • You’ll need to hold—or be able to obtain within 12 months—a Water/Wastewater System Operator License in line with state regulations. Support will be provided, but the commitment to get licensed is essential.

This role will suit someone who’s looking for stability, but doesn’t want to disappear into the background. Someone who enjoys being hands-on, takes real pride in doing things properly, and wants to be trusted to own their space rather than be micromanaged. It’s a good fit for someone ready to step into a position where what they do actually matters day to day.

You’ll be stepping into a critical function at a site that’s growing quickly, where wastewater is becoming increasingly important. Opportunities like that, especially at this level, don’t come around often.
