PAY & BENEFITS:Pay begins at $45,032.11 for Water & Sewer Maintenance Tech I and is based upon applicable experience.
In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Description:
The purpose of this classification is to perform manual labor and technical work of simple to moderate difficulty in support of constructing, maintaining, and repairing water and wastewater utility lines. Duties and responsibilities include uncovering water and wastewater lines/mains, removing and replacing lines/mains, replacing valves, setting meter boxes, and occasionally operating equipment/trucks when needed. Under close supervision, reports to Crew Leader.The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the job. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Performs a variety of manual labor tasks in support of construction, maintenance, and repair including: digging work areas, moving and removing pipes, replacing valves, removing and replacing covers, driving and assisting in installation and repair of utilities, and doing manual labor as required.
  • When skill level is appropriate, operates the following and other equipment as needed: rock saw, back hoe, trencher, dump truck, bobcat, jet truck, tapping machine, camera truck, fork truck, and vacuum truck; performs maintenance checks to equipment operated.
  • Assists in making water taps and installs service lines.
  • Assists in repairs of wastewater blockages using steel tape or jet truck.
  • Assists in flushing hydrants and blow-off valves in accordance with flushing program.
  • Assists in conducting backflow testing.
  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools inoperable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas. Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety, reports faulty equipment, and reports any issues to Crew Leader.
  • Maintains knowledge on current safety policies, practices, and procedures related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater appurtenances.
  • Following required training and management approval, maintains on-call rotation status for after-hours work.
  • Conducts behavior in a professional manner at all times to positively reflect on customer's perception of the Town.
  • Must be able to participate and progress through Apprentice Program prior to advancement to Water/Sewer Tech II.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Tennessee Driver's License. Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain within twelve (12) months of hire date.
  • Must be able to meet requirement of 20-minute response time for emergencies in the Town.
