THE POSITION
The ideal candidate for the position of Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic II will be an individual who can perform the installation and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, piping/conduit, and other mechanical equipment at a journey level. The candidate selected will work in the city’s Water Reclamation Plant as well as several pump stations throughout the city. The ideal candidate should be able to utilize power and hand tools, electrical testing devices, welding and fabrication equipment, and the ability to work safely in an industrial environment. It is desirable for the candidate to have some experience with equipment at a wastewater treatment plant or similar industrial facility.
Under general supervision of the Water Reclamation Superintendent or designee, the Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic II performs a full range of skilled mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of process equipment and systems at the City’s water reclamation facilities and pump stations. The position ensures continuous and efficient plant and pump station operation through preventive maintenance, diagnostic testing, and emergency response, and may assist in training and guiding lower-level staff.
This is the journey-level classification in the Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic series. Employees at this level perform the full scope of duties with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment in the diagnosis and correction of complex mechanical, electrical and instrumentation issues. This classification is distinguished from Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic I by its increased responsibility for complex diagnostics, independent decision-making, and leadership in field operations. The Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic II is a flexibly staffed classification in which employees may advance to the next level in the series based on demonstrated competencies, experience, and the needs of the department.
