This position is a member of the Public Works Department which includes the Streets, Water, and Wastewater Divisions. This position is responsible for maintenance and repair of City's water distribution system, which consists of approximately 185 miles of water main, 1,500 fire hydrants and 13,160 water services. Employee performs miscellaneous duties such as operating and repairing equipment, general clean up, concrete finishing, painting, etc. Employee operates, maintain, and repairs various machinery, power and hand tools, and equipment daily. Good communications skills are required as this position frequently deals directly with the public. The primary hours of this position are Monday through Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm; however, extended shifts and overtime on weekends, evenings, and holidays are required.
Successful candidates must establish residency within a 20-mile aerial radius of Collinsville City Hall, within twelve (12) months of hire date. This is a union position with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 520C.

This is an extremely physical position that requires above average physical ability, both to complete the essential duties of the position and to ensure the safety and welfare of the employees.
Walking, standing, stooping, and lifting of various material and equipment over 50 lbs. is required daily. Climbing onto/into and off/out of equipment is required daily, as well as climbing into and out of excavations, trenches, ditches, etc. Crouching and bending are required in the everyday performance of the essential duties of the position.
Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to eighty (80) pounds and to repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing more than eighty (80) pounds with assistance.
Must be able to report for work on time and to perform the duties of the job for the entire workday. Must be able to work flexible hours with some weekend, evening, and holiday work required. Must be able to perform frequent overtime work which may involve late night or early morning hours.
Must be able to endure all kinds of weather, from extreme cold/freezing temperatures, snow, and frozen conditions to extreme heat, humidity, rain, etc. Laborers can be exposed to a variety of other irritants including bees, wasps, spiders, and other insects, snakes, poison oak/ivy, and sumac.
SALARY and BENEFITS
Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the pay range begins at $32.65/hour. The City offers a generous comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, vision, and prescription 100% funded by the City for single coverage. Pension is with the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
