A Brief Overview

As a member of the Finance Leadership Team, provides leadership for the investment accounting function (GAAP and statutory) for the Company’s consolidated investment portfolio and subsidiaries, including derivatives. Partners with the Investment Department and Finance leadership to deliver accurate, decision-useful reporting, governance, and insight on invested assets and related income drivers. Owns the strategy and execution of the investment accounting operating model, controls, and technology roadmap to support business growth, new investment strategies, acquisitions and third-party relationships.

What you will do

  • Sets the strategy, operating model, and annual priorities for Investment Accounting to ensure reliable, decision-useful reporting and strong governance over invested assets and related income.
  • Builds, develops, and retains a high-performing team through clear accountability, coaching, succession planning, and a strong culture of partnership and continuous improvement.
  • Owns accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and annual close and reporting for invested assets and related income and expenses across GAAP, statutory/regulatory, tax, and management reporting bases.
  • Leads investment accounting policy, interpretation, and application for complex transactions and instruments (including derivatives and hedge-related strategies, as applicable), and provides guidance to portfolio management and business development teams.
  • Partners closely with the Chief Investment Officer and senior Investment leaders to align accounting outcomes, reporting, and analytics with investment strategy, performance drivers, compliance requirements, and stakeholder needs.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective internal control environment over investments, including documentation, monitoring, issue remediation, and audit/exam readiness.
  • Provides executive-level insights and materials on investment results and key drivers for senior management and other stakeholders; ensures consistency of narratives and metrics across reporting forums.
  • Directs cross-functional initiatives to improve process efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance transparency (e.g., automation/straight-through processing, data quality and lineage, reconciliations, and management reporting).
  • Owns the investment accounting technology roadmap in partnership with Information Technology and Investments, including system enhancements/implementations and vendor/outsourcer governance.
  • Supports business growth initiatives, acquisitions, and due diligence by evaluating investment accounting implications, risks, and integration requirements.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Finance leadership team to develop goals/plans/budgets that align with division and company objectives and then manages to those expectations.

Education and Experience
Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience
  • 12+ years accounting or auditing experience w/ at least 7 years of investment accounting experience and advanced experience in Statutory and GAAP accounting
  • 10+ years management experience
  • 5+ years insurance/reinsurance or financial services accounting experience

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree
  • CPA certification
  • CFA

Compensation Range:

$180,220.00 - $268,400.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
