Summary:
The person holding this position is responsible for preparing curriculum and providing instruction in the Arts department as well as providing organ and carillon music for community events. The vocal music teacher will lead all vocal music groups at Mercersburg, including Choral Performance (an academic course), Magalia and Octet (evening a capella groups), and Chapel Choir.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
Teaching: Teaching sections of specialized music programming, including chorus and a capella groups, and with the possibility of digital recording and/or music theory courses, preparing course objectives and course of study following departmental guidelines and curriculum, conducting varied and frequent assessments of student performance, utilizing appropriate technology in the classroom setting, keeping attendance and grade records as required by school, writing individual grade and comment reports six times a year with additional progress reports as assigned, maintaining regularly scheduled office hours for help sessions with students, attending faculty meetings and professional development opportunities provided by the school.
Co-curricular: Performing organ and carillon music to accompany chapel services, school meetings, and other special events; provide vocal coaching during the winter musical.
Additionally, this position requires some combination of coaching, advising, and residential responsibilities, to be determined based on school needs and applicant experience.
Communication: Communicating positively and proactively with students, advisers, parents, colleagues, and administration in a professional manner in both oral and written form. Engaging in productive collaboration with colleagues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The position requires a person who has experience teaching adolescents and enjoys working with and relates well to both adults and students, is collaborative, and communicates well. This faculty member needs to be organized as well as possess excellent technology skills. Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of an ever-changing boarding school environment.
This faculty member holds a full-time faculty position divided between vocal music education, music performance (organ and carillon), and other residential and/or coaching/advising responsibilities. Given the nature of the boarding school schedule, the role requires a significant evening commitment. Priority consideration will be given to candidates who can coach one of the following sports: boys and girls tennis, softball, diving, field hockey, girls lacrosse, or indoor/outdoor track and field events, specifically field events.
