Kent Place School is seeking an inspiring and collaborative Primary School Music Teacher to join our vibrant performing arts department. The successful candidate will be an experienced educator with a strong background in curriculum design, choral leadership, and teaching young singers. We seek a teacher who inspires a lifelong love of music, values community, and actively contributes to a collegial, mission-driven faculty culture.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching grades 1-5 music classes, implementing a comprehensive, sequential program of music instruction to Grades 1-5 that is aligned with best practices in music education
- Cultivating joyful, developmentally appropriate music experiences that build musical literacy, creativity, and confidence
- Leading a strong primary choral program
- Teaching healthy vocal technique and foundational musicianship to young students
- Preparing students for performances, assemblies, and community events.
Skills
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
- Strong choral conducting skills and experience working with children's voices.
- Proficient piano skills for classroom instruction and rehearsals
Collaboration and School Community
- Enthusiasm for supporting the Performing Arts Department initiatives and participating in community events.
- Collaborating closely with colleagues to support interdisciplinary connections and the broader life of the school
- Experience leading activities that broaden student participation in music and performing arts.
- Ability to perform primary school duties.
Required and Preferred Background
- A bachelor's degree in Music, or a related field is required.
- A master's degree in Music Education, a related field, or Education/Teaching is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of prior teaching experience, preferably with Primary School-aged children).
