About the Position
This is entry to full performance level professional planning work. Incumbent in this position serves as a member of the Department’s Vision Zero Prince George’s team and supports the coordination, outreach and implementation of a Vision Zero Program and Action Plan. Responsibilities include assisting with program development, project prioritization, partnership development, and community engagement, as well as supporting communications, outreach, and public information efforts. The incumbent also tracks best practices, contributes to reports and presentations, and supports special programs and departmental initiatives. Upon the satisfactory completion of a probationary period, entry level incumbents may be non-competitively promoted to the II full performance level. Work is performed under the general direction of the Vision Zero Program Manager.

About The Agency
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.
  • Assist the Vision Zero Program Manager in coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the Prince George’s County Vision Zero Action Plan.

  • Support in formulating a data driven methodology to inform preliminary pre planning project and program development and prioritization within DPW&T based on Vizion Zero goals and Action Plan.

  • Work with other employees to develop and grow partnerships with other Departments within Prince George’s County municipal government agencies to integrate the goals of and obtain support for the Prince George’s County Vision Zero Program

  • Assist the Vision Zero Program Manager in identifying community leaders, developing networks and partnerships for effective promotion and implementation of Vision Zero program goals and strategies.

  • Monitors DPW&T website to ensure it contains accurate information and is updated as necessary. Provides design input and updates visual text as appropriate.

  • Leads development and implementation of Vision Zero program’s communication and outreach strategies.

  • Drafts and edits Vision Zero related press releases and position statements; reviews press releases and position statements for accuracy to confirm information contained therein is consistent with the Department’s mission, goals, and objectives.

  • Plans and manages promotions and management of Vision Zero sub programs such as Yard Sign Lending program, Walk/Bike Audit program, In-street educational signage etc.

  • Creates and coordinates with others (including the communications team, budget analysts, and external vendors) the production of print and visual informational/promotional materials consistent with related Vision Zero theme/objectives, Princes George County formatting, and funding availability.

  • Assists members of the public, often serving as their first point of contact, by answering inquiries and providing information concerning Vision Zero’s policies, procedures, projects and programs.

  • Plans, assists, and participates with community outreach events and Vision Zero promotion efforts both virtually and in-person as applicable.

  • Creates systems to track and communicate ways in which communities are advancing meaningful Vision Zero strategies.

  • Track national and regional Vision Zero best practices and support knowledge sharing and professional development.

  • Provide administrative support including preparing correspondence, reports, and maintaining program documentation.

  • Participate as an essential employee in snow and ice control operations and other emergencies or special assignments as required.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, urban design, public administration, economics, business administration, transportation planning, political science, environmental science, or other field in the area of assignment
