JOB PURPOSE:

The Victim Service Coordinator is responsible for providing comprehensive victim notifications within their assigned counties and any additional counties as directed. This role ensures that victims are connected with appropriate services and assistance based on their needs and legal requirements. The Coordinator supports county offices by guiding them on proper referral processes and ensuring referrals are completed in a timely manner. The position requires ongoing communication with Circuit Solicitors’ Offices as needed, as well as collaboration with other victim service providers to deliver coordinated support. The Coordinator will conduct victim impact classes when required and will train county staff on how to effectively facilitate these classes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Initiates and maintains contact with victims in accordance with agency policy, the South Carolina Constitution, and applicable state statutes.

Provides oversight and guidance to County Office staff on timely and accurate portal entries, ensuring compliance with procedural standards.

Collaborates with the Circuit Solicitor’s Office on matters related to victim support and advocacy.

Assesses victim needs and facilitates referrals to appropriate support services and community resources.

Maintains and updates victim records within the Juvenile Justice Management System (JJMS).

Conducts daily reviews of the Victim Services Portal to facilitate timely and appropriate communication with victims.

Ensures follow-up on cases transitioned to 'In Process' status within the portal is completed within 15 business days.

Facilitates training sessions for agency personnel on victim services protocols and best practices.

Coordinates and delivers victim impact classes and panel discussions, including sessions tailored for youth audiences upon request.

Conducts specialized trainings for external agencies and community partners as needed.

Serves as an agency representative at public events such as panels, awareness walks, and advocacy marches.

Provide interagency support upon request, ensuring timely and effective collaboration.

Manage incoming correspondence and ensure prompt responses to return mail.

Maintain and update operational lists and documentation as directed.

Ensures fulfillment of annual Victim Service Provider continuing education requirements as mandated by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.

Participates in a minimum of four victim service training courses annually, delivered either virtually or in person, to maintain professional competency.

Perform other related duties as requested or required by your supervisor.

STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, criminal justice or related field and three (3) years professional experience in juvenile justice or criminal justice administration/program delivery.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


Knowledge of federal/state laws and regulations pertaining to juvenile offenders and the juvenile justice system.


Leadership and management skills to maintain effective interpersonal relationships; requires the ability to analyze/interprets broad juvenile justice and human services issues; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Knowledge of the courts and law enforcement and parole boards and how they work.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The candidate must be a certified Victim Service Provider within a year upon hire, or face termination.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

Must be able to lift 25lbs and work evenings.

Must be a certified Victim Service Provider within a year of hire date.
