Vice President of Operations - Mission Critical & Commercial Electrical - Chicago, IL


The Vice President of Operations is a senior executive responsible for leading and overseeing all operational aspects of the electrical construction business. This role drives project execution, field operations, safety performance, workforce development, operational efficiency, profitability, and client satisfaction. The VP of Operations works closely with executive leadership, project management teams, estimators, and field personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for all construction operations, including project management, field operations, scheduling, procurement, and workforce planning.
  • Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Establish performance metrics and accountability measures across all operational departments.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, labor productivity, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to identify and resolve operational challenges.
  • Ensure projects meet contractual obligations, company standards, and client expectations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop annual operating budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor project and departmental financial performance, including labor costs, equipment utilization, and overhead expenses.
  • Review project profitability and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support business growth initiatives through operational planning and resource management.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop project managers, superintendents, foremen, and operational leaders.
  • Support recruitment, retention, succession planning, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, developers, engineers, and industry partners.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in electrical construction operations.
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale commercial, industrial, institutional, or infrastructure electrical projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, construction scheduling, estimating, contracts, and financial controls.
  • Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with construction management software, project controls, and Microsoft Office applications.
