Role / Responsibilities
The Vice President of Development is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of multifamily development projects within a defined region. This position carries ultimate accountability for regional development performance, from site identification and entitlements through construction completion and transition to operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead all multifamily development activities for an assigned region with full accountability for performance.
- Source, underwrite, and execute development opportunities from site selection through construction completion.
- Oversee zoning, entitlements, permitting, due diligence, and early‑stage design activities.
- Manage development budgets, schedules, and execution relative to approved underwriting.
- Present investments and key milestones to internal approval committees.
- Lead coordination across legal, design, engineering, capital markets, asset management, and operations teams.
- Serve as the primary representative with municipalities, agencies, and elected officials.
- Ensure timely handoff of completed projects to asset management and property operations.
- Operate with a hands‑on, ownership‑driven mindset that prioritizes execution certainty, risk management, and reputation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of real estate investment and development experience, including senior‑level responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience leading multifamily developments through entitlements and construction.
- Strong financial modeling and underwriting skills with advanced Excel proficiency.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical ability with exceptional attention to detail.
- A hands‑on, results‑oriented leadership style with strong stakeholder management skills
