The Corporate & Investment Bank Digital Assets Legal team, part of the J.P. Morgan Payments Legal team, is seeking a new member to support coverage of cutting-edge blockchain-based payments initiatives such as deposit tokens, programmability, and more. The J.P. Morgan Payments Legal team supports the J.P. Morgan Payments business, which is part of the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) and is one of the world's largest providers of cash management, liquidity and escrow services. The CIB Digital Assets Legal team advises and supports the Financial Institution (FI) Payments, Digital Channels and Onyx by J.P. Morgan businesses, and provides comprehensive and coordinated legal coverage on the use of blockchain and cryptoassets across CIB.

As a member of the CIB Digital Assets Legal team, you will work collaboratively with others to lead strategic legal support for Coin Systems (part of Onyx by J.P. Morgan) and related Payments initiatives, focused primarily on blockchain-based payments products. You will advise on a wide range of regulatory and legal issues, as well as daily business support and documentation issues, as they relate to these coverage areas. You will join a successful, well established team of professionals, and will be provided with continuous training and on the job support when needed.

Job responsibilities:

  • Provide and coordinate legal advice across complex issues for the products that you support and in connection with the development and implementation of innovative product solutions
  • Collaborate with global business teams and legal/compliance colleagues and other control functions in each of our regions to address and resolve complex issues
  • Primary Legal coverage for the Coin Systems business, including in relation to blockchain deposit accounts and initiatives relating to deposit tokens, stablecoins, CBDC, programmability, etc.
  • Advise the business on relevant legal, regulatory and market developments involving distributed ledger technology and cryptoassets

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, in-house legal department at a large bank, technology or other financial services company, or governmental or regulatory agency
  • Proven ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management, and independently identify issues, analyze problems and provide viable solutions
  • Experience in collaborating on a broad range of business strategies and has a reputation for providing valued independent counsel and wise judgement
  • Effective and efficient problem solver; strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and project management skills
  • Self-starter; ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment
  • Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/ jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Familiarity with banking law and Uniform Commercial Code Article 4A
  • Familiarity with blockchain technology and its application to payments
