Supports the Chief Engineer and Master in operating the vessel in compliance with applicable regulations and company requirements, ensuring safety of life at sea, vessel security, and protection of the marine environment.
Complies with the Company Code of Conduct and all supporting policies, standards, and procedures.
Executes engineering and maintenance activities in accordance with state, class, flag, client, and company requirements and reports deficiencies, hazards, and incidents to the Chief Engineer.
Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on vessel machinery, systems, and equipment as directed to support operational readiness and reliability.
Assists in the operation and maintenance of vessel power generation and essential services, including propulsion, electrical power, HVAC, refrigeration, water, sewage, and related mechanical and electrical systems.
Performs maintenance and repairs to main engines, auxiliary machinery, pumps, motors, winches, steering gear, anchor windlass, lifeboat engines, and associated systems.
Monitors, tests, and records machinery and equipment performance to identify developing issues and communicates findings to the Chief Engineer.
Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, determines probable causes, and supports implementation of corrective actions under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
Maintains engineering spaces in a clean, orderly, and safe condition, ensuring compliance with housekeeping standards and safe access/egress.
Maintains accurate maintenance records, logs, and engineering documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
Supports audits, inspections, and surveys by ensuring documentation, equipment, and spaces meet required standards.
Participates in operational meetings and communicates equipment status, completed work, and outstanding issues during shift turnover and at the end of hitch.
Participates in emergency preparedness activities, including drills and exercises, in accordance with vessel and company requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supports the Chief Engineer in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring safe work practices are followed.
Provides guidance and assistance to junior engineering personnel and unlicensed crew as directed.
Identifies hazards, participates in risk assessments, and follows established controls to reduce risks to personnel, equipment, and the environment.
Ensures assigned tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards and instructions from the Chief Engineer.
