Vertical Video Producer & Editor

Mike Bennett Studios
Portland, OR

Vertical Video Producer & Editor

Contract / Freelance · Hybrid (Portland, 1–2 days on-site) · Senior (5+ years)

About Mike Bennett Studios:

We are the artist driven studio behind Wonderwood Springs, Wonderwood Mini Golf, The Portland Aquarium, and the Portland Keychain Library.

We have a community of 1.5M followers on TikTok, 200K on Instagram, and 50K subscribers on YouTube. Through storytelling and joy creation, we have built a community centered around Mike's art and our experiences.

About the Role:

We're looking for a scrappy, senior Vertical Video Producer & Editor to work directly with Mike. Focusing on concepting ideas, cutting up new/old footage, and producing short-form vertical content that performs.

This person will have a big impact on the Studio. You'll help shape how Mike Bennett Studios shows up online and how we both engage with and grow our community.

Most of the raw material will come straight from Mike. Both video footage and his original artwork, illustrations, and digital files. Robust editing skills are also at the heart of this role. Your superpower is taking material and creating it into content that drives community engagement, sells online products, showcases Mike's art, and brings our experiences (Wonderwood Springs, The Portland Aquarium, the Keychain Library) to life on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

The ideal candidate has a robust understanding of social media, keeps up on current trends and can pitch a concept and produce, edit and post within 24-48 hours.

What You'll Do:

  • Cut and finish short-form vertical video with serious editing craft, pacing, sound design, captions, transitions, on-screen text, the works.
  • Blend Mike's footage with his artwork, illustrations, and digital files - Composite art into shots, build animated reveals, design visual moments that turn raw footage into something only Mike Bennett Studios could make.
  • Concept and pitch ideas alongside Mike - Bring formats, hooks, trends, and ideas to the table - don't wait for a brief.
  • Translate social media trends into shootable concepts that you will produce and oversee all the way through to posting.
  • Make content with a job to do: community engagement, online product sales, highlighted events and awareness for our locations and experiences (Wonderwood Springs and Mini Golf, The Portland Aquarium, Portland Keychain Library).
  • Live in the analytics. Review platform performance regularly, identify what's working and why, and translate those insights into specific recommendations on concepts, hooks, formats, and editing choices.
  • Stay ahead of the platforms: formats, trends, and algorithm shifts and bring what's working into our pipeline.
  • Manage your own schedule: scope projects, hit deadlines, and keep things moving without hand holding.

What We’d Like to See From You!

  • Editing is your craft. You have a portfolio of cuts that show real attention to pacing, sound, motion, and visual layering, not just timeline assembly.
  • 5+ years producing and editing short-form vertical content
  • Expert understanding of Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve, with strong After Effects skills (or equivalent compositing chops) for working artwork and graphic assets into video content.
  • Comfortable working with mixed source material, live-action footage, illustrations, digital art, photography, and graphics. Combining them into a cohesive, platform native edit.
  • Deep, current knowledge of social media trends. You can name what's working on TikTok and Reels this week and explain why.
  • Strong Understanding of Analytics. Comfortable in TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube native analytics; you can read retention curves, identify drop-off points, and let the data shape your next cut.
  • An ideas person, not just an executor you pitch concepts, formats, and series, and you know how to scope them to what's actually shootable.
  • Scrappy and resourceful — comfortable being a one person operation and making great work with the footage and assets you're handed.
  • Clear communicator who can take notes, give notes, and keep things moving with Mike and the team.
  • Based in the Portland area or able to be on-site 1–2 days per week.

Bonus Points If You:

  • Can also film on iPhone to supplement Mike's footage, capture B-roll, on-location content at our properties, or quick-turn trend pieces.
  • Have experience making content for physical attractions, experiences, or small DTC brands.
  • Have animation or motion design skills, beyond standard editing work.
  • Have grown or meaningfully contributed to channels with strong organic reach.
  • Are comfortable working with CapCut, Frame.io, and modern collaborative post tools.

The Details:

  • Engagement: Contract / freelance, with the potential to grow into an ongoing relationship.
  • Location: Hybrid in Portland — 1–2 days per week on-site for production with Mike, the rest remote for editing.
  • Compensation: $40–$85/hour, depending on experience.
  • Start: June, 2026
