Job Description

The Utility Worker supports safe and efficient steel manufacturing operations by assisting machine operators, managing material flow, operating industrial equipment, and maintaining a clean, organized production area. This role works in a heavy industrial forging environment and plays a key part in ensuring product quality, minimizing downtime, and keeping production lines running smoothly.

-Support equipment and production line setup to ensure on‑time start‑ups and efficient restarts after stoppages.

-Assist operators by pulling heaters, returning material to line loaders, and maintaining steady material flow.

-Safely assist crane operations, including hooking loads, clearing pit jams, and supporting material movement.

-Operate conveyors, pallet conveyors, and cycle push buttons to prevent line backups and keep presses running.

-Guide finished material to racks and remove material when racks are full to maintain continuous production.

-Monitor heat changes and material flow to ensure heats are not mixed and communicate changes to operators.

-Verify material quality and documentation, including Green accept tags, and report issues such as rust, oil, or contamination.

-Perform general labor duties such as loading/unloading, inspection support, sonic rejects, and basic adjustments as needed.

-Use hand tools, measuring devices, forklifts, and assist with overhead crane operations in accordance with training and safety requirements.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy industrial forging environment that is not temperature controlled, so conditions can be hot, noisy, and physically demanding. The facility operates multiple shifts within a unionized structure, and employees must be open to working any shift. Typical shift hours are: 1st shift from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Overtime applies after 8 hours of work per day, with off‑shift roles receiving additional hourly premiums. The work involves frequent material handling, operation of sit‑down forklifts and other industrial equipment, and working near presses, coaters, conveyors, and overhead cranes. Employees work in steel buildings where cleanliness, organization, safety, and appropriate industrial attire are required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.22 - $24.22/hr.
