About the Role
We are looking to add a Utility Locator to our growing field operations team. This role is responsible for accurately identifying and marking Edge’s buried fiber and infrastructure to prevent damage during third-party excavation work, and to protect both the network and the public.
You’ll work closely with the Director of Field Operations, our construction crews, and dispatch to respond to locate tickets, coordinate with excavators and municipalities, and ensure Edge stays fully compliant with state one-call laws.
What You’ll Do
- Respond to locate tickets submitted through Diggers Hotline / 811 within required timeframes
- Accurately locate and mark Edge’s buried fiber, conduit, and related infrastructure using electromagnetic locating equipment and site documentation
- Document locate work thoroughly, including photos, sketches, GPS data, and ticket notes
- Communicate professionally with excavators, contractors, homeowners, and municipal staff on site
- Identify and escalate conflicts, unmarked facilities, or potential damage risks
- Maintain locating equipment, vehicles, and PPE in safe and working condition
- Coordinate with construction and engineering teams on complex or high-risk locates
- Support the buildout of Edge’s in-house locate program, including helping train additional staff as the team grows
- Comply with all applicable state one-call laws, OSHA safety standards, and Company policies

What You’ll Bring
Required:
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read and interpret maps, prints, and as-built drawings
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors year-round, and walk extended distances on jobsites
- Authorization to work in the United States
Preferred:
- Prior experience performing utility locates (telecom, electric, gas, or water)
- Familiarity with electromagnetic locating equipment (Vivax, Radiodetection, 3M, or similar)
- Familiarity with Wisconsin Diggers Hotline / 811 processes
- Experience with GIS tools, GPS equipment, or construction management software (Vetro, Vitruvi, etc.)
- NULCA certification or equivalent training
- Experience in telecom, fiber, or underground utility construction
