About the Company

Our client is a seed-stage robotics startup building autonomous surgical robots designed to drastically

shorten the learning curve for surgeons. The team uses off-the-shelf robot hardware combined with

proprietary controls, planning, and ML algorithms to take high-level guidance from surgeons and execute

surgical steps faster and with more precision than the surgeon. The work spans low-latency, high-accuracy

planning and controls; computer vision for anatomical landmark detection; and intuitive user interfaces for

surgeons to issue commands. The company has raised $14M in seed funding and is based in South San

Francisco.

Job Summary

This is a full-time, on-site role for a hybrid designer / UX engineer who can both design intuitive interfaces

and build them. You will be the person responsible for how surgeons interact with the robotics platform:

designing the workflows, prototyping the experience, and shipping production-quality front-end code. This

role sits between design and engineering and is critical to making the product easy and safe for surgeons to

use.

Job Responsibilities

• Design and build the user-facing interfaces that surgeons use to control and monitor the robotics

platform.

• Prototype quickly, then ship production-quality React / TypeScript code.

• Partner with founders, controls engineers, and ML engineers to translate complex robotics workflows into

intuitive UX.

• Observe live surgical workflows and incorporate that learning directly into the product.

• Own the front-end architecture and interaction patterns for the platform end-to-end.

Qualifications• Hybrid designer / UX engineer: strong in both interaction/visual design and front-end engineering.

• Production experience with React and TypeScript.

• Strong portfolio demonstrating shipped product UX, ideally for complex or technical workflows.

• Comfortable building from a blank page; can scope, design, and ship features without heavy direction.

• Bonus: experience designing for medical, robotics, industrial, or other high-stakes/safety-critical domains.

• Has owned and taken a project all the way to production.

• Startup mindset: work hard, work fast, comfortable outside a 9-to-5 structure.

• Not open to OPT candidates.

• Comfortable viewing live surgical procedures during onsite customer visits.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package available.
