Urology APP (NP/PA)- Inpatient

McLeod Health is seeking a dedicated and motivated Nurse Practitioner to join our expanding Inpatient Urology team at McLeod Urology Seacoast. Urology is a surgical specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions involving the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra, prostate, and male reproductive system. This role provides the opportunity to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered inpatient urologic care within a collaborative and growing service line supported by experienced physicians, APPs, and clinical staff. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient urologic care, including daily rounding, consults, postoperative management, and coordination of acute urologic needs across our coastal hospitals.
  • Manage conditions such as urinary retention, hematuria, obstructive kidney stones, complicated UTIs, hydronephrosis, catheter‑related issues, and postoperative recovery following common urologic procedures.
  • Perform bedside procedures including Foley and difficult catheter placements, Coude catheter use, bladder irrigation, clot evacuation, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) management.
  • Evaluate and manage ED and hospitalist consults while coordinating imaging, procedures, and discharge planning with physicians, nursing teams, and case management.
  • Collaborate closely with supervising physician Dr. Roberto Ferraro and the broader Urology team


Team Composition:
You will join a dynamic and growing coastal Urology team that currently includes:

  • 3 Urologists (Dr. Gangi, Dr. Ferraro, Dr. Gajewski)
  • 2 current Inpatient APPs
  • 2 PAs and 5 NPs in the practice, supported by MAs, LPNs, and scribes 
    • Physicians rotate between McLeod Carolina Forest, Seacoast, and Loris, with most surgical cases performed in Loris and Carolina Forest. 

 

Work Schedule & Patient Mix:

- Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–3:00 PM (case‑dependent)
- Standard 40 hours/week
- Occasional weekend coverage for order input/results management

  • 95% Inpatient
  • 5% Outpatient 
    • Ranges from 15–20 patients per day


Call Schedule

Weekend coverage in a remote setting, shared among APPs in the clinic

Orientation & Onboarding:

A structured 6–12-week onboarding program that includes:

  • System orientation and EMR (Epic) training
  • Shadowing urology physicians, APPs, and nursing staff
  • Progressive transition from observation to supervised, then independent patient management
  • Exposure to emergency department consults, OR workflow, and post‑op management protocols
  • Competency check prior to full autonomy 


Qualifications

  • New graduates accepted
  • Inpatient hospital, surgical, or urology experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced inpatient setting while maintaining strong communication and patient rapport
  • Proficiency in clinical assessment, documentation, time management, and coordination of multidisciplinary care
  • Commitment to delivering patient‑centered, evidence‑based urologic care
