JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Radiology Manager, the Ultrasound Technologist will perform Ultrasound testing and treatment in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast pace and dynamic environment.


Shift: Part-Time 27 hours + On Call


STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

1. Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA and safety standards.

2. Comply with established safety precautions at all times.

3. Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of patient care plans, patient assessments etc., as necessary.

4. Interview patients or family members as necessary.

5. Perform administrative requirements, as directed, such as completing necessary forms, reports, and data input, filing, and faxing.

6. Ensure safety and comfort of patients while going to and from Ultrasound Department and Radiology Department.

7. Coordinate US and radiology exams with other departments.

8. Perform Ultrasound exams on patients as necessary.

9. Brief patient or family of procedures involved in Ultrasound exams and prepare necessary equipment.

10. Maintain a current file of patients treated on an in-patient/out-patient basis.

11. Act as receptionist to patients for the Ultrasound and Radiology Department.

12. Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Radiology Manager.

13. Ensure that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner for patient comfort and convenience.

14. Reassure patient before and during Ultrasound exams.

15. Prepare the patient for exam by dress/position and administer radiology exam in accordance with established policies and procedures.

16. Coordinate with other facilities to retrieve or send radiographs or reports.

17. Assist in the distribution of transcribed radiology reports.

18. Act as a preceptor for new team members.

19. Participate in patient education, including family members when appropriate.

20. Participate in continuing education.

21. Perform other duties as assigned, needed, or required.

Requirements

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion high school, and completion of an accredited radiological technology program and/or Ultrasound program.

Formal Training: Completion of Accredited Radiological and/or Ultrasound Technology Program.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain a current BLS CPR, and be able to satisfy State of Georgia, TJC, and Federal licensure Requirements, or the equivalent thereof . As of Jan 1 2008 must be Ultrasound registered or supervised by a registered Ultrasound Technologist. If unregistered by ARDMS or ARRT, must be working toward certification for registry.

Work Experience: Six months to one year experience in healthcare / Ultrasound is preferred.
