Job Summary
The DC Department of Human Services is seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer with extensive experience supporting systems modernization initiatives. The selected candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and developing wireframes, GUI prototypes, and component-level designs for modernized human services applications.
This role requires a strong background in web and mobile UI/UX design, creative direction, brand strategy, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration with development, QA, UAT, business, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead UI/UX Designer for a systems modernization project.
- Plan, coordinate, and develop wireframes, GUI prototypes, user flows, mockups, and component-level designs.
- Develop technical application designs that improve usability and support end users.
- Create and maintain documented standards and procedures for design, development, installation, modification, and documentation.
- Support DIMS and blended funded applications through user-centered design practices.
- Lead Lean and Agile collaboration with engineering, UAT, QA, business analysts, project managers, and other stakeholders.
- Support rapid prototyping, usability testing, and iterative design improvements.
- Translate technical and functional requirements into intuitive user interface designs.
- Prepare complex technical documentation, design specifications, and supporting materials.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 11+ years of experience conveying technical and functional concepts for a specific technical specialty.
- 11+ years of experience preparing complex technical documentation.
- 11+ years of experience in creative direction and design.
- 11+ years of experience in brand strategy and storytelling.
- 11+ years of experience in web and mobile UI/UX design.
- 11+ years of experience with motion graphics and animation.
- 11+ years of experience with video production and editing.
- 11+ years of experience with copywriting and scriptwriting.
Highly Desired Qualifications
- 3+ years of UI/UX experience supporting human services applications.
- Experience working with government or public-sector systems modernization projects.
- Experience collaborating with .NET Developers, Business Analysts, Project Managers, QA, and UAT teams.
- Strong understanding of Agile, Lean, and rapid prototyping methodologies.
