Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an Experienced Trusts & Estates Paralegal at The Law Office of Barry E. Janay, P.C., located in Livingston, NJ. The paralegal will work closely with supervising attorneys to support all phases of estate planning, probate, and estate administration matters across New York and New Jersey. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and related planning documents; preparing and filing probate and administration petitions in Surrogate's Court (NJ) and Surrogate's Court (NY); managing active estate files from opening through closing; communicating with clients, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and courts; tracking deadlines and court calendars; and maintaining accurate records in the firm's practice management system (Clio).

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience with a strong focus on trusts, estates, or probate matters
  • Hands-on experience with NJ and/or NY Surrogate's Court filings strongly preferred
  • Proficiency drafting estate planning documents (wills, revocable trusts, POAs, healthcare directives) and probate/administration petitions
  • Familiarity with estate accounting, inventory preparation, and asset marshaling processes
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client-facing and court interactions
  • Experience with Clio or comparable legal practice management software preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Bachelor's degree or Paralegal certification required
  • Notary Public commission (NJ and/or NY) a plus
