The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Administrative Assistant is a full-time position responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and program support to enhance student success and ensure the efficient operation of the TRiO SSS program. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism, adaptability, and a strong commitment to the mission and vision of Roanoke-Chowan Community College.RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the Counselor in providing participant information on federal student financial aid programs (including the Federal Pell); financial planning; and budgeting
  • Provides direct, hands-on assistance to students in completing financial aid applications, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Compiles cumulative records of data on students (requires both daily/weekly and overall end-of-term review and completion)
  • Utilizes Blumen software to enter and maintain data on students
  • Distributes to faculty each semester “early alert” forms and maintains records of forms received
  • Distributes to faculty each semester midterm monitoring forms on SSS students and maintains records of forms received
  • Assumes responsibility for preparation and compilation of all outgoing student correspondence
  • Prepares and duplicates flyers, announcements, and tutoring materials with the assistance of the Tutor Coordinator/Computer Lab Technician
  • Assists in campus-wide recruitment and retention efforts
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the TRiO-SSS Director, Dean, or President.
COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge and experience in general office management. Ability to handle a wide range of administrative and support related tasks independently with minimal supervision. Well-organized, flexible, and able to uphold the mission and vision of Roanoke-Chowan Community College in every aspect of the work. Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality while interacting with internal and external stakeholders and remaining adaptable, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing. Ability to prioritize, with great attention to details. Proficiency in computer and office software applications.Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution. Two (2) or more years’ office experience required. Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets. General knowledge of office practices and excellent attention to detail. Willingness to accommodate requests for support outside of regular business hours on occasion, with appropriate notice.Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Ability to work well with the public in high pressure situations. Ability to multitask and to perform detailed tasks accurately. Strong computer skills with a focus on office applications.
