Job Title: Project Manager – Mechanical Construction
Job Description

A leading mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee mechanical construction projects across various locations. This role requires a professional with strong mechanical construction experience, the ability to manage multiple projects, and the willingness to travel to active job sites as needed. Candidates must be capable of working independently with minimal oversight while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and performance. Applicants with experience managing mechanical construction projects—particularly in industrial sectors such as data centers, semiconductor facilities, and pharmaceutical environments—will receive priority consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership to project teams, including Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, subcontractors, and field personnel.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with general contractors, owners, engineers, and architects.
  • Support field teams through clear communication, coordination, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as estimating, CAD, fabrication, and procurement.
  • Manage pre-construction planning, scheduling, and project setup activities.
  • Take ownership of project execution, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Resolve project challenges related to design conflicts, sequencing, manpower, and materials.
  • Review and approve project budgets, including labor, materials, and subcontractor costs.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist in negotiating subcontract agreements and vendor contracts.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including profitability, cash flow, and cost control.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly cost reports and accurate cost projections.
  • Identify, prepare, and submit change orders as needed and approve supplier and subcontractor invoices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in design coordination and conflict resolution across all trades.
  • Lead or support the submittal, RFI, and change management processes.
  • Coordinate CAD, fabrication, and field labor resources to meet project needs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing company procedures.
  • Professionally solicit vendors and suppliers during procurement.
  • Support estimating staff with technical project insights when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Preferred: Experience with Bluebeam and Procore.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • OR 10+ years of relevant mechanical construction experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience managing mechanical construction projects.
  • Experience with piping systems on industrial projects (data centers, semiconductor, pharma, etc.) is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates who advanced from the field into project management with 10+ years of PM experience are encouraged to apply.
Work Environment

The role requires on-site presence and includes oversight of subcontractors, Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and indirect leadership of field personnel and internal support services. The environment is fast-paced, demanding high standards of quality, safety, and performance. You will be part of a growing mechanical subcontractor working on some of the largest projects throughout the Southeast.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charleston, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $70.00/hr.
