Job Title: Traveling Millwright $22-35/hr

Job Description

This role focuses on building, repairing, and upgrading industrial paint booths in manufacturing and industrial facilities across the country. You will assemble structural I-beam frames, install sheet metal paneling, and set up ventilation, lighting, and other mechanical components by following detailed blueprints. This is a highly travel-focused position, requiring extended assignments of 3–6 months at a time on various project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Build and repair industrial paint booths in manufacturing and industrial settings according to project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to assemble I-beam frames and structural supports accurately.
  • Measure, cut, and install sheet metal panels to construct walls and enclosures for paint booths.
  • Install ventilation systems, ductwork, and related mechanical components to ensure proper airflow and safety.
  • Install lighting and other necessary applications and fixtures required for the completion and operation of paint booths.
  • Perform welding and fabricating tasks as needed to assemble frames, supports, and metal components.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and equipment safely and effectively for cutting, fastening, and installing materials.
  • Operate construction and material-handling equipment as required for installation and assembly work.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and structural issues with paint booths and related systems, and perform repairs as needed.
  • Perform carpentry and framing tasks related to the installation and support of paint booth structures.
  • Work with iron work and sheet metal components to ensure strong, precise, and durable installations.
  • Follow all on-site safety procedures and guidelines while working in active manufacturing facilities.
  • Travel to project sites and remain on assignment for extended periods of 3–6 months at a time, as required.
  • Collaborate with team members on-site to complete projects efficiently and within specified timelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly cared for and stored.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal work, including measuring, cutting, and installing sheet metal panels.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for framing, layout, and installation work.
  • Experience with construction, carpentry, and framing in industrial or commercial environments.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for metalworking, construction, and installation tasks.
  • Experience with welding and fabricating metal components for structural assemblies.
  • Background in mechanical work, including installation and service of ventilation or ductwork systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and structural issues related to paint booths or similar installations.
  • Experience working as an iron worker, sheet metal mechanic, or in a similar trade is highly relevant.
  • Capability to install and service HVAC-related components and duct work as part of ventilation systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and stay on assignment for 3–6 months at a time without returning home.
  • Comfort working full-time schedules that can reach approximately 60 hours per week, Monday through Saturday.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices and adherence to site-specific safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certifications are a plus.
  • Journeyman status in a relevant trade is a plus.
  • Equipment operating certifications are highly beneficial.
  • Prior experience building, installing, or maintaining paint booths is an advantage.
  • Background in HVAC, mechanical service, or industrial construction is desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment on large, complex projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver precise, high-quality installations.

Work Environment

You will work primarily in active manufacturing facilities and industrial plants, where projects focus on building, repairing, and upgrading paint booths and related systems. The schedule typically runs Monday through Saturday, with about 60 hours per week, requiring reliability and comfort with overtime. Work takes place on construction-style sites that may involve noise, machinery, and varying temperatures. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, welding and fabricating equipment, and material-handling or construction equipment. The role is travel-intensive, with assignments lasting 3–6 months at a time in different locations across the country. Appropriate workwear suitable for industrial and construction environments, along with any required personal protective equipment, will be necessary on-site.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
