Transportation Manager 

This position is Hybrid working 3 days a week in our Legacy West Support Center located in Plano Texas

About the role

Develops, directs and implements the domestic transportation to support outbound store deliveries & key partnerships with internal/external customers, and vendors resulting in best-in-class service performance & effective cost-focus strategies.  Directs transportation strategy and identifies opportunities for process improvements.  Create and sustain a customer service model that exceeds the expectations of customers.  Assess and improve customer satisfaction, service delivery model and improve the bottom line.  Provides support for all business units operating under Sally Beauty Holdings.  Provides leadership and direction to Transportation staff and associates and maximizes workforce utilization while promoting/fostering the SBH values. This position reports to the director, Transportation & Logistics and will have indirect report.

Responsibilities

30% Manage regional pool distribution to support store deliveries for 1/4 of SBH network & Develops key partnerships with 3rd party vendors, both existing and new, leading edge organizations.  Calculates return (ROI) and evaluates and recommends strategies for meeting increasing sales/volume/customer demands and timeliness/accuracy of shipments to stores and customers

25% Monitor & continuous improvement store/customer transportation on-time performance & opportunities as they occur

20% Develop and manage the freight-operating budget with the goal of negotiating and selecting the best carriers at the best cost that provide the best service for the company 

15% Route outbound shipments, monitor carrier negotiated service terms. Audit freight invoices and process carrier freight claims in accordance with contractual agreements and company ethics 

5% Maintain accurate control over all store and customer shipments by complying with all ICC and Sarbanes-Oxley policies and procedures, including regular invoice and shipping document audits

5% Develops and prepares annual operating budget and ensures compliance.  Achieves operating and financial goals and objectives.

Knowledge, skills & abilities requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-7 years of Traffic/Freight Management and Transportation experience in retail or  similar environment
  • Previous experience in a fast paced, high volume organization, which mandates quick decision-making and effective communication.
  • Expansive exposure and experience in contract negotiations. 
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and freight rating software
  • Experiences in analytics software such as Tableau, Power BI, Clik, …

  • Practical experience with a Transportation Management System and Freight Audit System including inquiry and report writing
  • Experience performing in a goal setting environment

 Working conditions & physical requirements

The work may require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as record boxes.  The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc.  The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
