Performs duties as a certified inspector in at least four specialized areas using relevant SCDOT, ACI, and SCDES certifications. Certifications can include: SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician, SCDOT Earthwork & Drainage Inspector, SCDOT Concrete Field Technician, SCDOT Foundations Technician, SCDOT Pavement Preservation Level 1, ACI Concrete Field Technician - Grade 1, and SCDHEC Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Inspector. Acts as lead inspector to ensure all required tests are performed and all samples are obtained. Ensures all daily work reports and inspection forms are accurate and no more than 7 days behind. Performs Wage Interviews, traffic control inspections, and erosion control inspections. Reviews and enters sample and material certification information into ProjectWise and AASHTOWare in a timely manner. Reviews contracts, plans, standard drawings, and all specifications to ensure contractors are meeting requirements. Operates all survey equipment to verify contractor's work. Observes drilled shaft and pile installations to obtain or maintain SCDOT Foundations Certification. Meets with general public, contractors, property owners, and utility companies. Assists in the preparation of final plans and monthly construction estimates. Notifies the contractor, ARCE, or RCE of any issues that occur on the project site and ensures conflicts are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner. Accurately measures, calculates, and records quantities of installed contract pay items in the field and enters the information into AASHTOWare for accurate contractor payment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
