Position Overview
Guzman Energy is seeking a Transmission Portfolio Strategist to join our Transmission and FTR team. This role owns Guzman's long-term transmission position and serves as the source of truth for Designated Network Resource (DNR) tracking. The Transmission Portfolio Strategist leads the systems, tools, and processes that enable Guzman's transmission portfolio to operate at scale — supporting trading, regulatory, and commercial functions across the company.
This is a high-impact role at the center of the Transmission and FTR group. The right candidate combines portfolio discipline with technical depth in power flow analysis, a strong systems and data orientation, and the ability to partner across Supply, Risk, Origination, and Real-Time. The Transmission Portfolio Strategist reports to the Director of Transmission and FTR.
Core Responsibilities
Portfolio Ownership & DNR Tracking
- Hold and maintain Guzman's long-term transmission position across all applicable Transmission Providers
- Own the DNR process end to end and serve as the source of truth for DNR tracking
- Maintain an integrated DNR tracking map that reconciles accurately against OASIS
- Track the timing of roll-over rights and drive timely action across the portfolio
- Manage how the value of each leg of the portfolio is recorded into Guzman's systems
- Keep the portfolio organized, documented, and current at all times
Systems, Tools & Source of Truth
- Lead the strategy for how Guzman records and manages its transmission portfolio, including the underlying systems and tools
- Implement and refine the tools needed to support portfolio management, position tracking, and reporting
- Ensure consistency between internal systems and external sources of record (OASIS, TSP filings)
- Develop reporting and dashboards that enable Trading, Risk, Supply, and Origination to operate from shared data
Power Flow Analysis & Modeling
- Lead forward-looking power flow analysis to support portfolio and trading decisions
- Develop and advance Guzman's transmission modeling capability — through internal partnership, vendor tools, or consultant support as appropriate
- Define the appropriate mix of in-house and external analysis for transmission planning needs
- Support portfolio-level decisions and trading strategy with technical analysis
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Supply and Load to ensure proper match-making across the portfolio
- Partner with Risk and Supply on path knowledge, exposure, and portfolio positioning
- Track and coordinate proper book placement on transmission trade value
- Work closely with Origination on transmission recommendations and placement of new assets
- Provide subject-matter support to the Transmission and FTR team across trading, regulatory, and study workstreams
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in transmission, energy markets, FTR, portfolio management, or a related power-sector role
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Business, or a related quantitative discipline
- Strong working knowledge of OASIS, OATT tariffs, DNR processes, and long-term transmission service
- Experience with at least one major RTO/ISO (SPP, MISO, PJM, ERCOT, CAISO, or WECC bilateral markets)
- Demonstrated portfolio or position management experience — holding a book of record and reconciling it to external systems
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate technical data into business decisions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; comfort working with structured data, position files, and reporting tools
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail — this role requires the ability to hold a complete picture of the portfolio against external data sources
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across Trading, Risk, Supply, Origination, and Regulatory
- Self-directed work ethic and ability to drive process improvements independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with FTR trading, evaluation, or portfolio management
- Experience with power flow analysis tools (e.g., PSS/E, PowerWorld, Dayzer)
- Familiarity with SPP ATTS, PSCO, and related study processes
- Experience implementing or working with enterprise portfolio management or trading platforms
- Data programming skills: Python, SQL, R, or dashboard/visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)

- MBA or graduate degree in a related field
- Alignment with Guzman Energy's mission to deliver innovative, equitable, and sustainable energy solutions

- Annual performance-based incentive bonuses
- Unlimited paid time off
- Medical benefits
- 401(k) program with employer match
