Transmission Line Working Foreman

Purpose: This position shall, direct and be held accountable for the safety and production of assigned crew members in the performance of maintenance, inspection or construction functions as defined or implied in service contracts entered into by the Cooperative. Including the proper operation of equipment, the quality and quantity of work performed and the harmony of the crew and crewmembers. All activities will be coordinated through his or her Manager and shall adhere to all Cooperative safety rules and work procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program which is recognized by State Apprenticeship Council and have a minimum of four (4) years experience in hotline bare hand work on high voltage and extra high voltage electric power transmission systems. Related on-the-job experience may be substituted in lieu of meeting formal apprenticeship training experience or any equivalent combination of education experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
  • Must be a journeyman lineman with at least (5) years experience relative to electrical utility operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in motivating and supervising field personnel. Possess excellent work ethics and be highly self-motivated. Perform and expect a high level of workmanship.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Transco's Power Delivery Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule, plan and complete work in a defined time frame.
  • Ability to train and/or orient assigned personnel or other personnel in the maintenance, inspection or construction of the Cooperative's electric power transmission system.
  • Shall possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver License (Class A) within one year from date of hire.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Ten years working experience
  • Basic computer navigation skills – MS Office, Windows, etc.

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan daily, weekly, monthly and annual work activities, assuring the economic utilization of men and equipment. Prepare weekly and monthly work schedules and be accountable for their timely completion.
  • Provide clear directions to crewmembers to enable them to complete assigned maintenance, inspection or construction tasks. Monitor crew members productivity and make changes to improve productivity. Perform work activity as required.
  • Provide positive leadership, coordinate, direct and train all assigned crewmembers in accordance with the Cooperative's policies, labor agreement and safety rules.
  • Promote and maintain safe working conditions, practices and procedures with regard to personnel and equipment. Perform daily tailgate sessions, monitor and enforce use of personal protective gear. Report continued infractions to Manager.
  • Commit to a timeline and ensure all work activities have the correct staffing, materials, tools and equipment allocated. Coordinate work activities and capital projects with Operations and other departments as needed. Plan alternate work activities to ensure productivity when foul weather conditions or equipment breakdowns occur. Ensure all work is performed in accordance to RUS and the Cooperative's standards, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure crewmembers maintain good housekeeping practices on all equipment, tools, vehicles, and assigned areas in order to promote better operation and appearance.
  • Perform switching on power delivery system in conformance with established operational procedures. Perform or direct live line and bare hand work procedures in accordance with Cooperative and industry practices and procedures.
