Traffic Signal Technician Helper B

Assist and perform a variety of manual labor tasks in and around traffic signal control boxes, underground conduit and wiring, in support of Traffic Engineering.

This is a Training and Certification Program position.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  1. Assist with the maintenance and repair of traffic signals infrastructure and associated wiring, structures and equipment.
  2. Assist with installation and maintenance of overhead street name signs (illuminated and non-illuminated).
  3. Assist with the installation of traffic signal infrastructure.
  4. Move, load and unload equipment and materials; operate hand tools, power tools, city vehicles and other equipment including but not limited to lift and boom trucks.
  5. Provide general cleanup and debris removal; work with concrete and related items in sidewalks and drives.
  6. Perform related duties and responsibilities by assisting Traffic Signal Technicians along with supervision in various duties, as needed and required.
  7. Perform line spotting of underground facilities.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.

High school diploma or GED.

Experience with MS Word and Excel preferred.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid Class A CDL within six (6) months from date of hire by passing the independent CDL knowledge test, independent skills tests and the required medical certification.

Environmental:
Exposure to loud noises, dust, vibrations, all weather conditions and hours of the day; traffic, high speed roads, heavy vehicles; work in the vicinity of high voltage electrical equipment.

Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
