About this OpportunityCoordinates the analysis, development and implementation of traffic safety and traffic control programs.
The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization.Job Duties and Responsibilities- Manages GIS and crash data programs, railroad surface and safety program, and the traffic counting program.
- Reviews and evaluates right-of-way, excavation and special event permits to determine street closure and/or traffic control needs.
- Responds to citizen concerns and requests; evaluates requests for changes in street name and regulatory signs and recommends approvals
- Reviews final plats for regulatory sign and street lighting installation needs.
- Completes sign design and placement in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control standards; reviews public and private handicap parking installations.
- Attends pre-construction meetings
- Works with utility companies on installation and removal of street lights and reviews construction plans; recommends changes to street lighting
- Coordinates temporary railroad crossing closures.
- Researches intersection and roadway crash history; identifies concerns.
- Completes speed studies; reviews school crossings and routes
- Approves parking restrictions for special events
- Performs related work as required
Required Education and Experience- Associate's Degree in related field and
- Three to five years of experience in traffic control, design and/or safety or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Desired Qualifications- Experience with GIS software
Work Schedule- Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm
