About this Opportunity
Coordinates the analysis, development and implementation of traffic safety and traffic control programs.

The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization.Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages GIS and crash data programs, railroad surface and safety program, and the traffic counting program.
  • Reviews and evaluates right-of-way, excavation and special event permits to determine street closure and/or traffic control needs.
  • Responds to citizen concerns and requests; evaluates requests for changes in street name and regulatory signs and recommends approvals
  • Reviews final plats for regulatory sign and street lighting installation needs.
  • Completes sign design and placement in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control standards; reviews public and private handicap parking installations.
  • Attends pre-construction meetings
  • Works with utility companies on installation and removal of street lights and reviews construction plans; recommends changes to street lighting
  • Coordinates temporary railroad crossing closures.
  • Researches intersection and roadway crash history; identifies concerns.
  • Completes speed studies; reviews school crossings and routes
  • Approves parking restrictions for special events
  • Performs related work as required
Required Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree in related field and
  • Three to five years of experience in traffic control, design and/or safety or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with GIS software
Work Schedule
  • Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm
