Job Title: Traffic Control Laborer
Overview: Suit-Kote Corporation, a leading Asphalt products manufacturer, road construction and maintenance and asphalt application engineering company is seeking candidates for Traffic Control Laborers.
Safety Expectations: All Suit-Kote employees are required to comply with all safety rules and to observe safe work practices and operating procedures at all times. Whenever on Suit-Kote property or job sites, or operating Suit- Kote equipment, employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes the safety of the employee, co-workers and others.
Responsibilities/Job Duties:
- Have the ability and willingness to dig, spread and level construction materials with a shovel
- Work with others to help complete tasks in a timely manner
- Varying types of work including: digging, flagging, concrete work, backfill pipe
- Basic troubleshooting
- Signing of roads prior to mobilization of equipment into workzone - includes pounding signposts into ground at specified locations and bolting traffic control signs onto posts, setting of windmaster stands/signs at above ground locations when required
- Removal of traffic control devices upon completion of roadwork
- Organization/inventory of traffic control signs/posts in designated sign shop area and yard
- Understanding of UDIGNY rules and procedures through certification training
- Laboring and/or flagging duties as needed
- Maintenance/care of trucks assigned to sign crew
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Strong work ethic
- Physical Organization and time management
- Flexibility in hours - overtime and weekend hours may be necessary
- Travel and overnight potentially necessary
- Working knowledge of general hand tools and power tools
- CDL License a plus
- Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required and a background check will be conducted
- Consent to a DMV license evaluation
- Must have or be willing to obtain an OSHA 10 Hour Safety Certificate
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Observe and comply with necessary PPE requirements
- Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card
- Receive training and regularly operate stakerack trucks in compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- Must be able to work in a noisy area with many odors present
- Bending, stretching, stooping, kneeling, crawling and squatting
Other Preferred Qualities:
- Ability to read and understand SDS
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- High school diploma or GED - a two year technical degree is preferred
- Basic math skills
Position is considered full time, but seasonal in nature, with anticipated lay-off in the November thru March time-frame. Site specific locations may have varying seasonal requirements that can extend or contract these timeframes.
