Tractor Trailer Mechanic

We are seeking an experienced Tractor/Trailer Mechanic to perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Class 8 tractors and dry van trailers within a fast‑paced fleet environment. The ideal candidate is safety‑focused, detail‑oriented, and capable of working independently to keep equipment in top operating condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and routine inspections on tractors and trailers
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, air brake, and suspension systems
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets compliance standards
• Troubleshoot engine, transmission, and drivetrain issues (non‑rebuild level)
• Repair or replace trailer components including doors, landing gear, lights, wiring, and air lines
• Document all work performed using maintenance software or work orders
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
• Communicate equipment status and repair needs with supervisors and drivers
• Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a diesel mechanic, tractor/trailer technician, or fleet maintenance tech
• Strong understanding of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and trailer components
• Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documents
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and working under vehicles

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Minooka, IL.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $34.00/hr.
