The County of San Luis Obispo Public Works Department is seeking a Temporary Administrative Assistant III to support the Wastewater Utilities Division. This position will support project-based administrative and clerical duties to a public utility program responsible for wastewater service to several communities across San Luis Obispo County, including Los Osos, Oak Shores, San Luis Obispo Country Club, and Nipomo.
Anticipated projects include organizing and maintaining digital records, converting historical documentation into structured formats, and assisting with data review and verification efforts. The position will also support administrative coordination related to customer service, will serve programs, coordination with finance and billing services staff, and regulatory compliance. This is a temporary, project-based position expected to work 10–40 hours per week, limited to 960 total hours per fiscal year, supporting a broad range of administrative functions for the Wastewater Utilities Division.

They are comfortable working with large volumes of records and data, maintaining accuracy across multiple systems, and following established processes with consistency.
This individual demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify discrepancies, organize complex information, and support data accuracy efforts. They are self-motivated, able to manage workload independently, and capable of prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced, project-based environment.
The successful candidate will have experience supporting administrative or operational functions that require a high level of accountability, attention to detail, and adherence to procedures. Experience working with records management systems, spreadsheets, or databases is highly desirable.They communicate effectively with team members, take initiative to improve organization and efficiency, and are comfortable supporting both routine administrative tasks and more complex data verification efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
All levels: Graduation from High School or possession of a G.E.D AND
Administrative Assistant I: EitherA: 6 months of experience performing duties comparable to Administrative Assistant Aide.Or B:One year of general clerical experience including word-processing/computer experience.
Administrative Assistant II: Either A: One year of experience performing duties comparable to Administrative Assistant I.Or B:Two years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer experience.
Administrative Assistant III: Either A:One year of experience performing duties comparable to an Administrative Assistant II.Or B:Three years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer experience.
Possession of either a Certificate of Proficiency in secretarial, clerical, or library studies or possession of a paralegal certificate from an accredited institution will substitute for up to one year of the general clerical experience.
