Job Description:

The Digital Communications Systems Technician supports the installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of analog, digital, and internet-based communication systems. This role operates under supervision and collaborates with senior technicians, engineers, and vendors to ensure reliable telecommunications infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair communication systems and equipment
  • Support analog, digital, and VoIP systems, including enterprise call platforms
  • Work with:
  • PBX and key telephone systems
  • Cloud platforms (Microsoft Teams, WebEx, Zoom)
  • Servers supporting voicemail, IVR, call recording, and automated attendants
  • Install and maintain cabling infrastructure:
  • Copper and fiber-optic cables
  • Patch panels, wire management systems, and jacks
  • Troubleshoot:
  • Network and telecommunication circuits
  • Voice and data systems
  • Cabling and connectivity issues
  • Perform moves, adds, and changes (MAC work) for telecom systems
  • Configure and troubleshoot VoIP systems
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams on installation and issue resolution
  • Assist in evaluation and implementation of new equipment


Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in telecom systems installation and support
  • At least 1 year at journey-level
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across systems, circuits, and infrastructure
  • Experience with:
  • PBX and key systems
  • Network telecommunications circuits
  • Data communication equipment (modems, multiplexers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of:
  • VoIP technologies
  • Cloud communications tools (MS Teams Voice preferred)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills


Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years working with:
  • NEC PBX systems
  • Nortel Norstar systems (MICS, Call Pilot, trunk/station modules, RAD)
  • VoIP platforms (Cisco, Microsoft Teams Voice)


Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
