Technical Specialist Coordinator provides coordination for technical or supporting laboratory projects/functions to ensure efficient and timely provision of quality laboratory services as defined by the assigned work unit. This may range from coordinating projects to overseeing laboratory functions such as scientific case reviewers requiring advanced senior level technical and scientific expertise, coordinating technical specialist (I/II) schedules, training and/or performing scientific case review. Maintains complete and accurate documentation of data and/or work processes; assesses work flow processes to ensure efficiencies and quality testing services. Organizes and coordinates work-teams and process evaluations. Presents data findings and recommendations to laboratory and departmental leadership. Addresses customer questions/concerns regarding laboratory testing issues/processes, test result interpretation (when applicable). Performs clinical/scientific case review (when applicable). Develops and implements new tests, instruments or laboratory work flow processes. Serves as a senior laboratory testing and/or work flow process leader, including training of technical and work team members. Participates and frequently leads the discussion of ongoing projects with other members of the assigned team(s), and is expected to identify future areas of potential development. Completes other projects or assignments as assigned.
**Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic**
Bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, a biological science from an accredited institution, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in addition to a certificate in MLS. In histopathology or non-testing laboratories, bachelor's degree with laboratory certification if applicable. Six years of relevant laboratory experience; or a Master's degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology and four years of relevant laboratory experience. A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree.
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with operations and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation assay/database and spreadsheet applications. Demonstrated leadership ability and management experience. Excellent human relation skills. Flexible, efficient, possess good organizational skills and respond positively to change. Self-motivation, attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to work independently. Knowledgeable of the concepts of continuous quality improvement and quality assurance. Ongoing willingness to upgrade job skills, education, and training. Able to work independently.
Certification and License:
ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.
