Description

The Technical Manager provides leadership in the development and management of the Somerset mill. Being a key part of the leadership team working alongside other mill leaders in setting mill-wide priorities and objectives, this person will progress into Mill Manager in the coming months taking over from the current incumbent who will be moving with the business.


Responsibilities:


Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide leadership across technical the mill.
  • Contribute to mill-wide strategy, priorities and business planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Support development of teams through coaching, training and succession planning.


Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to improve safety, product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Drive variable cost reduction and asset optimisation programs.
  • Champion Lean, Six Sigma and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Oversee root-cause analysis, data-driven problem solving and performance tracking.


Technical & Quality Management

  • Ensure product quality management systems meet customer expectations.
  • Lead production testing, process optimisation and implementation of new technologies.
  • Maintain ISO standards and ensure compliance with all quality systems.


Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Work proactively with regulatory bodies.
  • Lead environmental performance initiatives and sustainability efforts.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with operations, procurement, sales and external stakeholders to achieve operational and business goals.


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and people management capability.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience in Lean/Six Sigma or similar.


The Person:

  • Degree educated in Engineering Principles.
  • Significant experience in pulp and paper manufacturing environments (Coated paper experience is a plus).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TPM).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
